Institutional Facilities

I nstitutions such as schools, universities, clinics, and libraries often have buildings that may be very diverse in form, each reflecting its functional use. The facility may range in size and complexity from a single multi-functional building with diverse uses to a campus of specialized buildings. A successful design for institutional clients requires thorough knowledge of the "business" and the ability to translate this knowledge into a functional design- often within a limited budget and in a short amount of time. These projects take creativity and experience to be successful. We at the AES Design Group have completed many of these kinds of projects.

Medical Clinic
Lanakila Health Center

Department of Health
State of Hawai`i - Honolulu, Hawaii
T uberculosis is a signifiant health concern in Hawai`i and the rest of the world. The State of Hawai`i operates screening and monitoring facilities for this easily transmitted disease. As part of our renovation of the Lanakila Health Center, we researched and installed a state-of-the-art digital x-ray machine and the associated support facilities.

Library Expansion and Renovation
Alvah Scott Elementary School

Department of Education
State of Hawai`i - Pearl City, Hawai`i
S pace and openness were high on the list of design requirements for the new library at Alvah Scott Elementary School. We met these requirements by limiting walled areas to the librarian's office and keeping the rest of the library open. We added windows at "little people" levels so that they too can peer out to the outside.

Faculty Center
Salt Lake Elementary School

Department of Education
State of Hawai`i - Honolulu, Hawai`i
The Salt Lake Elementary School is a 1970's school with a typical 70's look. The faculty and administration wanted their center to blend in with the rest of their campus and made this one of the major requirements for its architectural design. We met this requirement by designing a building that repeated the existing design elements of the rest of the campus right down to the paint scheme.
