Architectural Barrier Removal for Disabilities (ADA)

I nstitutions such as schools, universities, and libraries often have buildings that may be very diverse in form, each reflecting its functional use. The facility may range in size and complexity from a single multi-functional building with diverse uses to a campus of specialized buildings. A successful design for institutional clients requires thorough knowledge of the "business" and the ability to translate this knowledge into a functional design- often within a limited budget and in a short amount of time. These projects take creativity and experience to be successful. We at the AES Design Group have completed many of these kinds of projects.

Many schools were built with minimal accomodations for people with physical disabilities. The architectural limitations are being rectified as Hawai`i's public schools are being asked to service more and more physically disabled students. We have been actively involved in architectural barrier removal projects of which Kahalu`u Elementary School is typical.
